Blog Entry No. 3 Part 1 - MMFF PAGPAG: ANG SIYAM NA BUHAY

MMFF or Metro Manila Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Manila. This year, there are 8 official entries announced by MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino namely Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy, Pagpag: Ang Siyam na Buhay, My Little Bossings, Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel, 10,000 Hours, Pedro Calungsod: Ang Batang Martyr, Boy Golden and Kaleidoscope World. Luckily, I was able to watched these 3 movies, Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy, Pagpag and My Little Bossings, in 3 consecutive days. And these 3 movies were the top 3 with the highest grosses.

Last December 27, 2013, I watched Pagpag: Ang Siyam na Buhay with my boyfriend and brother. I chose this movie for my blog entry because even if this is  horror movie, I liked it.

Pagpag: Ang Siyam na Buhay is a Filipino horror and suspense film starring Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, Shaina Magdayao and Paulo Avelino, directed by Frasco Mortiz and released it last December 25, 2013.

The concept of the movie is based on a Filipino superstitious belief that one should never go home directly after visiting awake since it risks bringing evil spirits to one's home. One should first shake off (Pagpag) whatever curse there may be to avoid being trailed by the soul of the dead.

Elements of the Film:

1. Music/ Soundtrack - The film Pagpag doesn't have an official soundtrack but the catchy part is that people knows that commercial is Pagpag when they hear a child singing "SINO YANG KASAMA MO?" The film used horror sound effects to set the mood of the audience.

2. Acting- The actors and actresses in the film really did a great job. They delivered and act their lines properly and you can really feel what they feel. Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla do really have a chemistry. People inside the theater giggling because of them.

3. Cinematography- It is better. I like it because I understand the movie. The scenes were good because of you can connect them immediately.

4. Dialogue- "Good dialogue is essential for a movie to be perfect, but a good dialogue can also make a poor story. The dialogue of the film is good because you really understand the story and what they're saying. But in some scenes, sound effects are louder than an actor's dialogue.

5. Story- The story is about young visitors that doesn't believe in superstitions. They didn't know that Shaina has an intention to them. They didn't know that Shaina will kill 9 people so that her husband will be alive. But Shaina doesn' know that Kathryn's brother, who can see apparitions, is her first baby. At the end, Kathryn and Daniel solved there problem with the help of Clarence and Matet. The visitors died connected with the violation they did in the wake. The story of Pagpag was great. It was great because it tells us how Filipino believe in superstitions.
